Platform for secure implementation of the biometric systems for verification and identification
"Platform for secure implementation of the biometric systems for verification and identification" is a two-year (2009-2011) national project realized within the field of “National interior security”. The project is co-sponsored by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
The activities carried out in the project aim at creating procedures, guidelines and best practices for the laboratories that realize testing of the biometric systems performance and security. We foresee the creation of international distributed network of mutually accredited and trusted laboratories that join forces to conduct testing and certification activities more efficiently focusing on the security of biometric solutions. A significant outcome of this project will encompass the adaptation of prescriptive legal instruments (and creating new ones, if necessary) concerning secure usage of biometrics.
Project consortium gathers parties that deal with the biometric systems security from different perspectives. NASK Biometric Laboratories and Warsaw University of Technology have a deep technological knowledge and a scientific potential. The Department of Forensic Science (part of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw) holds the competence to analyze the biometric systems from legal point of view. The Polish Security Printing Works has a huge practical expertise as the producer of biometric passports and visas, invaluable when defining the expected outcomes of the testing laboratories.
